Hogan Lovells has strengthened its Greater China intellectual property (IP) practice with the lateral hire of William “Skip” Fisher in Shanghai.  Skip, an experienced U.S. IP lawyer and China IP strategist, joins Hogan Lovells on 29 November 2011 based in the firm’s Shanghai office.

Corporate Lawyer Joins Gibson Dunn’s New York Office

Holland & Knight to Expand Abu Dhabi Office

As part of its continuing efforts to serve clients in the Middle East, Holland & Knight will expand its Abu Dhabi office, which opened four years ago. U.S. partners Andrew Stephenson, Michael Cavanaugh, and George Howell will supplement the office’s existing professionals. In addition, Joseph McDonough will join the Abu Dhabi office as a partner. Mr. McDonough has extensive experience in the Gulf region. Mr. Stephenson, who practices in the construction and international arbitration areas, will serve as the executive partner for the office.

Shearman & Sterling Advises IPIC on Ferrostaal Settlement Agreement with MAN

Shearman & Sterling has advised International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC), Abu Dhabi, on a settlement agreement with commercial vehicle and engineering group MAN. The agreement comprises a settlement of their dispute regarding Essen-based industrial services provider Ferrostaal. The two shareholders have agreed that IPIC will retransfer to MAN, and MAN will repurchase from IPIC, all of IPIC’s shares in Ferrostaal. MAN is to pay €350 million under the settlement. IPIC acquired 70 percent of the shares in Ferrostaal at the start of 2009.

Davis Polk Advises TE Connectivity on Its Exclusive Negotiations to Acquire Deutsch Group

Davis Polk is advising TE Connectivity Ltd. in connection with its exclusive negotiations with the Wendel Group and has made a binding offer to acquire Deutsch Group SAS in a transaction valued at €1.55 billion (approximately $2.06 billion at current exchange rates). The proposed acquisition will enable TE to provide a wide range of industry-leading connectivity products for harsh environment applications. The potential acquisition is expected to close by the end of June 2012.
