Linklaters’ Ex-Eastern Practice Hires the Firm’s Ex-Attorney

Law firm, Kinstellar, formerly Linklaters’ Eastern European practice, has hired a former Linklaters attorney. Bogdan Bibicu practiced out of Linklaters’ London office as a banking associate in 2005-2006.  Bibicu joins Kinstellar as head of banking and finance in the Bucharest office.  Kinstellar, which formed in November 2008, also has offices in Bratislava, Budapest and Prague.

Jones Day Ranked As Second Best

Cleveland’s Jones Day was rated as the second best law firm in the United States.  Magazine, Board Member Inc., surveyed over six thousand general counsels and directors of publicly traded firms.  There were only three firms not headquartered in one of the major legal cities, such as New York, Washington, Chicago, or Los Angeles.

David Berstein – New Firm, Same City

Clifford Chance has lost partner David Bernstein to K&L Gates.  Bernstein is joining the firm’s New York office from his former firm’s New York office. He joined Clifford Chance when the firmed merged with Rogers and Wells.  Bernstein was head of the corporate practice and chairman of the M&A group.

Baker Botts Hires Shibeer Ahmed for Dubai

Shibeer Ahmed has joined Baker Botts’ Dubai office.  Previously, Ahmed co-led Lovells’ Middle East practice from 2007, when it launched, through April of this year.  Ahmed specializes in banking, finance, specifically Islamic finance.  Baker Botts launched its Dubai office in 2005.

He Couldn’t Leave Winston & Strawn Forever

David Hertzog has made his way back to Winston & Strawn LLP.  He rejoins as of counsel in the firm’s New York office.  Hertzog practices corporate law, focusing on securities, mergers and acquisitions, private equity, and financial transactions.  Hertzog joined the firm the first time when his firm Hertzog, Calamari & Gleason merged with Winston & Strawn in 1999.

Skadden Loses Two Major Partners

Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom has suffered a major hit when two major partners deferred to Kirkland & Ellis.  David Fox and Daniel Wolf made tens of millions of dollars of fees for Skadden.  Fox has practiced with Skadden for more than 20 years and Wolf is one of the youngest attorneys to make partner at the firm.

Cozen O’Connor Receives Charity Award

Cozen O’Connor recently received the honor of placing most charitable in all four categories for large companies at the Corporate Philanthropy Summit held by Philadelphia Business Journal. When compared against both large and small companies, 65 in total, the firm ranks at the 13th most charitable contributor in the region.  In 2007, Cozen donated about $1.7 million.
