Jacob J. Worenklein, who has over three decades of experience advising the world’s largest energy and financial institutions on complex project finance transactions, has joined Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP as a partner in the firm’s New York office. He joins Ed Zaelke and Adam Umanoff as co-head of the firm’s global project finance practice. Previously, he was a partner with another large international law firm.

Milbank Represents Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation In $7.3 Billion Acquisition of RBS Aviation Capital

International law firm Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP, represented Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) in their acquisition of RBS Aviation Capital, creating the world’s fourth largest commercial jet aircraft leasing and finance company, for US$7.3 billion from The Royal Bank of Scotland plc. This is the largest disposal by RBS since the government bailout in 2008.

Pillsbury today announced that a group of prominent insolvency and restructuring partners is joining its firmwide Insolvency & Restructuring practice, and will be resident in the firm’s New York office. Deryck Palmer, Andrew Troop and Christopher Mirick arrive from Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft, where Palmer was the Co-Chairman of the financial restructuring department and a former member of the firm’s Management Committee.

Dechert Expands Presence in Germany with Opening of Office in Frankfurt

Dechert LLP announced today that it has expanded its presence in Germany with the opening of an office in Frankfurt. Achim Pütz, who joined the firm in 2010, will serve as the managing partner for the office. He will be joined by Dr. Carsten Fischer and Dr. Benedikt Weiser, who have been elected as partners in the Financial Services group. Fischer, who has started with the firm, was previously a partner and a leader of the regulatory team at WTS Group, while Weiser, who will join the firm in February, was most recently a partner at Mayer Brown and head of its German Private Investment Funds group.
