Fenwick & West Deepens Private Equity Practice—Scott Joachim Joins Firm

Fenwick & West LLP, a leading technology and life sciences law firm, is pleased to announce that Scott Joachim has joined the firm as a partner in its Private Equity and Mergers & Acquisitions Groups.  Mr. Joachim will be resident in the Silicon Valley office and serve as Chair of the firm’s Private Equity Practice.

“We are delighted Scott has joined the firm and confident that he will strengthen our firm’s growth in the private equity arena,” said Gordon Davidson, Chairman.  “He is an exciting addition because of his experience in diverse sectors, such as software, biotechnology, healthcare and clean technology, all of which are core industry sectors at Fenwick & West.  We couldn’t be more pleased that he has decided to join Fenwick & West to expand his practice.”
“Fenwick & West has a deep bench of talent and experience in the private equity, securities, M&A and tax arenas—coupled with a strong national and cross-border practice—which makes it a very compelling choice,” noted Mr. Joachim.  “Fenwick is perfectly poised to further solidify its market-leading position in technology and life sciences M&A.  Beyond the strength of Fenwick’s practices, I was drawn to the firm for several reasons, particularly because the firm is nationally known for its powerful technology and life sciences platform, its strong record of handling high-profile deals, and because of the firm’s incredibly positive and collaborative culture. Fenwick is a perfect fit for my practice and I am looking forward to being part of the firm.”
Mr. Joachim’s experience spans all facets of the private equity industry, including leveraged buyout funds, growth equity funds and hedge funds.  He regularly represents private equity sponsors in connection with platform acquisitions, add-on acquisitions, growth equity investments and recapitalizations.  Additionally, Mr. Joachim routinely represents private and public companies in connection with strategic M&A transactions, joint ventures and partnerships, and capital raising transactions.  Mr. Joachim has successfully counseled clients on major transactions worldwide, including transactions between parties in the United States and India, China, France, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Australia and Canada.
“We are extremely pleased to add Scott to our active Private Equity and M&A practices. Scott has broad industry experience and knowledge, which makes him an excellent choice to expand the firm’s private equity capabilities.  His experience advising private equity funds and management teams, and deep M&A transactional experience, is perfectly aligned with our long-term strategy for the Private Equity Group,” said Richard Dickson, Chair of the firm’s Corporate Group.
Mr. Joachim earned his J.D., cum laude, Order of the Coif, in 1997 at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, where he was the Managing Editor for the Hastings Communications and Entertainment Law Journal.  He earned his B.A. in Political Science at the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1993.  He has served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, where he has taught a course entitled “Mergers & Acquisitions: Law and Practice.”  He also serves as a faculty member of the Practising Law Institute, where he regularly lectures on M&A topics.
