Reed Smith Financial Industry Group Adds Matthew J. Bromberg in New York

Reed Smith LLP today announced the addition of Matthew J. Bromberg as a partner in its Financial Industry Group. A former managing director and senior managing counsel to The Bank of New York Mellon in its Investment Servicing Division, Bromberg will practice out of the firm’s New York office.

“Matt is a seasoned and talented investment management attorney with more than 20 years serving as in-house counsel and in various compliance roles at some of the largest financial services institutions and investment funds in the industry; and the addition of a lawyer with his pedigree underscores the firm’s commitment to the continued growth and expansion of the practice,” said Timothy S. Johnson, partner in Reed Smith’s Financial Industry Group and co chair of the firm’s investment management practice. “His skillset and wealth of knowledge in all aspects of fund transactions and compliance are great assets to the firm and our clients.”

Bromberg focuses his practice on advising mutual fund, exchange traded fund (ETF), and private fund clients, as well as the investment advisers and sponsors to funds and managed account platforms. He provides counsel in connection with fund formation and registration, along with a wide variety of other arrangements, including custody and collateral, administrative and accounting, and sub-accounting and transfer agency relationships. He provides advice on regulatory matters such as designing and implementing compliance programs, and in support of clients through regulatory examinations and reporting. In addition, Bromberg regularly advises clients on disclosure matters, commercial contracts, and board governance.

“Reed Smith’s Investment Management practice distinguishes itself by integrating investment management attorneys with regulatory compliance, dispute-resolution and restructuring attorneys in every major global financial center,” said Bromberg. “I was attracted to Reed Smith for the firm’s collegial and entrepreneurial environment, and I look forward to working with attorneys and clients across the firm’s global platform.”

Prior to The Bank of New York Mellon, Bromberg was vice president and counsel at Merrill Lynch Investment Managers LP, and was also previously a partner at King & Spalding LLP.

Bromberg is the latest addition to the firm’s New York office, and the second this month. Joseph A. Sarcinella joined the Real Estate practice last week from Thompson & Knight LLP. In mid-July, Niket Rele joined the Corporate and Transactional Advisory Group as a partner.

“We look forward to having Matt on board,” said Douglas Wood, managing partner of Reed Smith’s New York office. “The Financial Industry Group and Investment Management practice are core areas for the firm, and he will be a huge asset to the team and to our clients.”

Reed Smith’s Financial Industry Group consists of more than 250 lawyers across the firm’s 26 offices. The team advises domestic and global banks, insurance companies, credit card companies, mortgage bankers, investment banks, and investment management companies and advisors.
