Kirkland & Ellis Strengthens Antitrust and Competition Practice with Hire of Katherine A. Rocco in New York

Kirkland & Ellis LLP is pleased to announce that Katherine A. Rocco has joined the Firm’s New York office as a partner in the antitrust and competition practice. Ms. Rocco joins from Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP where she was an associate in the litigation practice with a focus on complex antitrust and regulatory matters.

Ms. Rocco’s appointment enhances significant recent growth of Kirkland’s antitrust and competition team, which now includes 12 attorneys in New York and more than 85 globally. Peter McCormack, an antitrust & competition associate in the New York office, will be promoted to partner in October 2016, forming part of a deep and experienced bench of antitrust attorneys in New York.

“We are delighted to welcome Kate to our antitrust and competition team in New York,” said Ian John, an antitrust partner at Kirkland & Ellis. “Kate’s arrival and Pete’s well deserved elevation reflect the significant growth and success of our practice in New York, particularly in relation to transactional counseling. We expect to continue expanding the team in parallel with the growth of the Firm’s M&A practice as well as our market-leading antitrust litigation work.”

Ms. Rocco has extensive experience across a broad array of antitrust and regulatory matters, including managing large-scale domestic and cross-border investigations in response to inquiries by the FTC, DOJ and the EU, and counseling clients on the antitrust implications of potential transactions. Ms. Rocco is also an experienced litigator, having managed complex matters through trial and appeal. She holds a J.D., magna cum laude, from Fordham University School of Law where she was an Editor of the Fordham Law Review and a Wilkinson Scholar. She holds a B.A., magna cum laude, in economics and international affairs from George Washington University.

“I am excited to join Kirkland’s exceptional antitrust and competition team in New York,” said Ms. Rocco. “The Firm has a deep bench of antitrust lawyers handling high-profile merger clearance, litigation and regulatory matters for blue-chip corporate clients and private equity firms. I look forward to adding my experience into the mix and helping to extend our client offering even further.”

Globally, Kirkland will promote two other associates to partner in the antitrust and competition practice. Associates Jonathan Faria in Los Angeles and Scott Lerner in Chicago also become partners in October.
