Constangy, Brooks, Smith & Prophete Opens Minneapolis Office

Constangy, Brooks, Smith & Prophete, LLP, a national law firm, is pleased to announce the opening of a new office in Minneapolis which expands the firm’s footprint to 28 offices in 17 states.

Constangy has named Piyumi Samaratunga, a leading corporate immigration attorney, to head the new office which will focus primarily on corporate immigration and global mobility. “Piyumi brings an unparalleled set of skills with her experience in international law, the corporate sector and as an immigrant. Her strong business aptitude and knowledge of global corporate immigration law will enhance Constangy’s position as a key strategic business partner for employers adapting to the rapidly changing diverse global workforce,” said Neil Wasser, Chair of the firm’s Executive Committee.

Prior to joining Constangy, Samaratunga chaired the Immigration Practice for Felhaber Larson, a Minneapolis-based firm. A native of Sri Lanka, Samaratunga received a Master of Law from the University of Cambridge and J.D. degrees from the Sri Lanka Law College and Hamline University School of Law. She has practiced law in the United States since 2002, after working with law firms in London and Sri Lanka.

In conjunction with Samaratunga’ s transition to Constangy Brooks, Smith & Prophete, Felhaber Larson announced it will assist with client file transitions while maintaining the full scope of its labor, employment and corporate practice. “Piyumi has been a strong member of the Felhaber team and will be a good fit for Constangy’s practice,” said Paul Zech, President, Felhaber Larson.

“I’m delighted to have the support of Felhaber Larson and Constangy during this transition. Both firms have demonstrated the highest regard for their clients. I am especially grateful to the support Felhaber Larson gave me and I look forward to growing this practice at Constangy,” said Samaratunga.

The new office is the next step in an aggressive growth initiative for Constangy. Since March, the firm has welcomed 30 new attorneys and opened offices in three states.
