Gibson Dunn Adds Leading Four-Partner Corporate Team to Hong Kong Office

Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP is pleased to announce the addition of four partners to its Hong Kong office: Paul Boltz, Scott Jalowayski, Michael Nicklin and Brian Schwarzwalder. The team, which joins from Ropes & Gray’s Hong Kong office, will continue their private equity, finance and securities practice at Gibson Dunn.

About Paul Boltz

Boltz, who served as the managing partner of Ropes & Gray’s Hong Kong office, focuses his practice on capital markets and M&A transactions. With more than 15 years of experience in Asia, Boltz represents issuers and underwriters in U.S. and Hong Kong IPOs and advises U.S. and Hong Kong listed and pre-IPO companies in M&A, joint venture, PIPEs and registered secondary offerings, privatizations and compliance matters. He represents numerous companies in the high-tech and life sciences sectors and has significant experience representing sovereign and institutional investors in their investing activities in Asia and elsewhere. He is a guest lecturer on U.S. securities law at the Faculty of Law at the University of Hong Kong.

Boltz practiced with Ropes & Gray since 2009. Before that, he practiced with Morrison & Foerster in Hong Kong. He received his law degree from Villanova University School of Law in 1996.

About Scott Jalowayski

Jalowayski has practiced in Asia since 2000. He advises private equity funds, their portfolio companies, and other global and regional investment managers on their investment and M&A transactions in Asia, including leveraged and unleveraged control acquisitions, minority investments, joint ventures, divestures and restructurings. He has significant experience representing asset managers in active and passive co-investments and in consortium arrangements. He represents clients in a wide range of industries, including health care, chemical, solar energy, telecommunications, media, retail and technology.

Jalowayski practiced with Ropes & Gray since 2008, and prior, he practiced with Morrison & Foerster in Tokyo and Hong Kong and Kellye Drye & Warren in New York. He received his law degree, summa cum laude, in 1998 from New York Law School, where he was the Articles Editor for New York Law School Law Review.

About Michael Nicklin

Nicklin’s practice covers a broad range of debt financing transactions across the Asia-Pacific region, with particular experience in leveraged finance. He regularly advises private equity sponsors and other sophisticated investors on complex, cross-border acquisition financings, including public to private transactions. He also has significant experience in special situations transactions, including direct lending, bridge financing, rescue financing, junior capital, convertible debt, restructurings and other event-driven financings.

Nicklin practiced with Ropes & Gray since 2011. Prior, he practiced in the London and New York offices of Weil, Gotshal & Manges and DLA Piper in London and Leeds. He received his LLB from University of Hertfordshire in 1995.
