Ogletree Deakins Welcomes Shareholders to Firm’s Dallas, Minneapolis Offices

Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C. (Ogletree Deakins), one of the largest labor and employment law firms representing management, welcomes Andy Tanick and Adam Dougherty to the firm as shareholders. Both join Ogletree Deakins from FordHarrison LLP and are resident in the firm’s Minneapolis and Dallas offices, respectively. Since January, 13 shareholders have joined Ogletree Deakins across the firm’s network of 47 offices.

Tanick was the Administrative (Managing) Partner of FordHarrison’s Minneapolis office prior to joining Ogletree Deakins and was a member of FordHarrison’s Management Committee. He previously served as the Chair of the Labor and Employment Practice Group at the Minneapolis firm of Rider Bennett, LLP. He is a Labor and Employment Law Specialist, certified by the Minnesota State Bar Association. Tanick has more than 25 years of experience defending employment claims and helping employers develop effective policies and avoid litigation. He also advises businesses of all sizes on issues such as non-compete agreements, severance negotiations, and employment policies and practices, and has successfully defended cases throughout the country in areas such as discrimination, retaliation, and harassment.

He is a frequent lecturer at employment law seminars and has written several employment law articles on topics including religious accommodation, overtime lawsuits, the NLRB, social media use in the workplace, and independent contractors.

Tanick is well-known in Minnesota’s legal community and has been named a “Minnesota Top 40 Employment Lawyer” by Law & Politics and is AV® Preeminent Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell. He earned his J.D., cum laude, from University of Minnesota Law School.

Adam Dougherty represents and counsels management clients in a wide range of industries, including restaurants, retail, healthcare and long-term care, transportation, agriculture, manufacturing, energy, and banking with all types of employment and labor law matters arising under international, federal, and state law. Dougherty is board certified in labor and employment law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He has extensive experience in class and collective actions with putative class members numbering in the tens of thousands. He has also represented companies in high-stakes non-compete litigation spanning numerous states. Outside of his litigation practice, Dougherty provides counseling and training to clients covering all areas of employment law including leave issues, wage and hour compliance, reductions in force, and discipline and termination issues.

Dougherty is a committee chairman for the employment law sub-section of the American Bar Association’s Class Action Committee. He has written extensively on high profile litigation brought under the Fair Labor Standards Act. He also serves as the president of the Shelton School Dads’ Group, the past president of the University of Arkansas School of Law’s National Alumni Association, and as a pro bono trial attorney for the Advocates for Community Transformation.

Dougherty earned his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Arkansas School of Law.
