Pinney L. Allen is retiring from Alston & Bird and from her career as a lawyer all together. Her new career? She has accepted the position of the head of school for the Atlanta Girls' School. She starts the job July 1. At 54, Pinney Allen is diving into a long-held interest of education and women's issues.

Besides not hiring grumps, Perkins awards its lawyers with bonuses for good behavior (toward others). Decision are based, in part, on questoionnaires filled by partners concerning other the “citizenship” of other partners. The merger between Blackwell Sanders and Husch & Eppenberger was closed on February 29. It is now Husch Blackwell Sanders LLP. It was actually expected to close earlier in February or in late January, but both firms had some compromises to make. Previous chairmen from each firm, David Fenley and Joseph Conran will lead the conjoined firm as co-chairmen.

Proskauer Rose's 2007 Revenues Are Up |

Proskauer Rose posts a 19% increase in revenues for the year 2007. 2006's figure of $514.3m (£262m) increased to $627.8m (£320m). Profits per partner (PEP) has grown 15% to reach $1.5m (£763,000). This is good news following Proskauer's 2007s launch of offices in London, as well as Sao Paulo.

Ropes and Gray Opens Up Shop In Chicago |

Boston based Ropes & Gray has launched a new office in Boston this past Monday. It currently predicts that within the next two years, it will grow to house 100 lawyers. The firm has been around now for 140 years accumulating about 900 lawyers in seven offices, six in the US and one in Tokyo.

Firm Mergers Dropped Some in 2007 |

Law firm consultancy Hildebrandt International reports that in 2007 55 law firm mergers. Not bad, as compared to the 58 law firm mergers in 2006. The trend is still apparently higher than from 2004 and 2005. Hildebrandt expects the 2008 number to stay fairly high.

The U.S. Green Building Council offers LEED certification to buildings who meet particular qualifications concerning its environmentalism.
