Polsinelli Continues to Build Commercial Real Estate Strength in Chicago

Polsinelli welcomes two new shareholders to the firm’s Real Estate practice in Chicago. Michael Ostermeyer and Karen DaCosta Perzan bring with them deep experience in advising clients on commercial real estate matters, adding to the already-deep bench strength the practice offers its clients nationwide.

Ostermeyer focuses his practice on guiding public development and public infrastructure projects, and on developing commercial, institutional and industrial realty. He also has more than 20 years’ experience in working with corporate and institutional clients who own real estate as an operating rather than a financial asset and in helping them handle and position their portfolios.

Perzan represents clients in a range of matters, including property acquisitions and dispositions, tax-assisted development, real estate finance, commercial leasing arrangements and zoning issues. She represents parties including major corporations, facilities funds, owners, tenants and developers in commercial real estate transactions.

The two join a practice that has been working at full capacity in a range of real estate service areas, most notably in joint ventures among real estate investors and other complex financing deals.

“Last year we had 168 real estate attorneys, and we needed every single one of them. We were cranking on all cylinders,” said Eric Greenfield, the Chicago-based vice chair of the firm’s national Real Estate practice. “So this year we will be growing. Mike and Karen are great additions to our team. Their combined experience enhances our ability to support clients in managing the challenges and taking advantage of the opportunities in today’s complex commercial real estate market.”

Polsinelli is home to eleven Chambers USA-ranked real estate attorneys and its real estate practice has achieved high rankings in Law360, U.S. News and World Report, and Midwest Real Estate News.

“Certainly, the caliber of the professionals here is top-notch,” Perzan said, “and it’s exciting to join a group of people who are working at such a high level to deliver for their clients. I’m proud to be part of a practice that brings together such talent and is so committed to excellence.”

Ostermeyer, too, said he is motivated to be part of the team, adding, “The growth mindset of the real estate attorneys here is tremendous. They’re excellent legal advisors, of course, but they also have a real business mindset. That’s exactly how I like to work, tailoring what we do to reflect a full understanding of the business context our clients are working in.”

With Ostermeyer and Perzan on board, Greenfield predicts additional growth for the practice through 2017. “It’s a virtuous cycle,” he said, “of attracting talent to do strong work and then winning more business on the basis of that work. This is a great place to be.”
