Polsinelli Adds Wealth Planning Shareholder in Chicago

Polsinelli, an Am Law 100 firm, announced today that wealth planning attorney Bill Long joined its Chicago office as a shareholder.

Focusing his practice on estate and tax planning, Long represents high net worth individuals, key executives, and business owners, and serves as an outside general counsel for many clients operating as corporations, partnerships and limited liability companies. He has extensive experience advising closely-held and family-owned businesses in the orderly and tax efficient transfer of wealth to younger generations, and has more than 30 years of experience representing clients before the IRS in connection with income, estate, and gift tax audits.

Long also represents individual and institutional trustees/executors with respect to their fiduciary obligations and responsibilities. His practice includes preparing wills, grantor trusts, insurance trusts, generation skipping trusts, residence trusts, pre- and post-martial agreements, probate filings, gift/estate tax returns, as well as creating family holding companies, subsidiaries, and family governance structures.

“Bill brings a great depth of experience to our practice and is a wonderful fit for the business-minded culture of the firm overall,” said John S. Schmidt, chair of Polsinelli’s Wealth Planning and Estate Administration Practice. “He truly understands the needs of business owners and other successful individuals, and we’re thrilled to have him as part of our team.”

Polsinelli’s Wealth Planning and Estate Administration attorneys take an integrated approach to their work, collaborating daily with their colleagues across the full-service firm in connection with shareholder agreements, retirement planning, marital agreements, gift planning, and charitable gifts.

“I am excited to be joining a firm that supports and embraces an estate planning practice with a strong focus on middle market companies,” Long said. “Polsinelli is a great fit for my clients and my practice.”

Long is a graduate of Bradley University, received his J.D. from The John Marshall Law School and an LLM from DePaul University. He has been a frequent speaker on business and federal taxation matters, presenting seminars for the Chicago Bar Association, the Internal Revenue Service, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Association of Independent Accountants and numerous financial institutions.
