Polsinelli Adds IP Litigation Shareholder in Chicago

Polsinelli, an Am Law 100 firm, announced today that intellectual property litigator Luke Shannon has joined its Chicago office as a Shareholder in the Intellectual Property Department.

Shannon focuses his practice on patent infringement suits that arise under the Hatch-Waxman Amendments to the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. He participates in all stages of litigation, from pre-suit through appeal, and has also represented clients in a variety of commercial litigation matters, including breach of contract and tort disputes. Shannon is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and has experience in preparing patent applications, patentability reports, and freedom to operation opinions, including opinions of non-infringement and invalidity, in the fields of pharmaceutical compositions, aerosol propellants, consumer products, and renewable power generation.

“Adding Luke to our team further strengthens our ability to serve our pharmaceutical industry clients,” said Gary E. Hood, who leads Polsinelli’s Hatch-Waxman Litigation practice and also serves as Intellectual Property Division Chair. “We are very pleased to bring his talent, along with his background in chemistry and his tremendous experience, to our growing practice.”

Polsinelli has one of the largest Intellectual Property practices in the nation. The firm’s Hatch-Waxman team has deep experience leading Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) cases and represents some of the world’s largest, best-known, and most influential generic, brand, and specialty pharmaceutical companies, litigating everything from blockbuster products, to smaller market and specialty pharmaceuticals, in both first-to-file and later filer cases.

“I’m excited to join a firm with a culture that truly fosters innovation and a practice that has moved beyond a conventional approach to patent cases. Polsinelli’s strategic and business-minded work on behalf of clients makes it a great place to serve my clients and further develop my practice,”
Shannon said.

Shannon is a graduate of the Illinois Institute of Technology Chicago – Kent College of Law and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry.
