Jones Day Opens in Miami as Part of Latin America Practice Expansion, Welcomes Enrique (Rick) Martin as New Partner

The global law firm Jones Day has announced that it has opened an office in Miami, the Firm’s first office in Florida, 16th in the U.S., and 40th in the world. Pedro A. Jimenez, a Miami native and partner in Jones Day’s Business Restructuring & Reorganization Practice, will serve as Partner-in-Charge. Enrique (Rick) Martin, who recently joined Jones Day as a partner in the Mergers & Acquisitions Practice, will serve as the Office’s Administrative Partner in Miami.

Martin Schrier Joins Cozen O’Connor’s Miami Office

Top 100 US law firm Cozen O’Connor announced today that Martin Schrier has joined the firm’s Miami office as a member. Mr. Schrier, formerly a partner with K&L Gates, focuses his practice on complex business transactions, including domestic and international mergers and acquisitions, leveraged buyouts, restructurings, and venture and growth capital investments. His clients include middle market private equity firms, other private investment funds, high net worth individuals and corporate clients. The addition of Mr. Schrier follows six partners joining Cozen O’Connor in South Florida from Edwards Wildman last week.

Akerman Senterfitt Represents OPKO Health in $290 Million Acquisition of Cytochroma Inc., Closes Private Offering of $175 Million

Akerman Senterfitt recently represented OPKO Health Inc. (NYSE: OPK), a multinational biopharmaceutical and diagnostics company, in its $290 million acquisition of Cytochroma Inc., a clinical-stage specialty pharmaceutical company focused on developing and commercializing products that treat patients with kidney disease. The deal was led by Mary Carroll, national chair of Akerman Senterfitt’s Corporate Practice Group and shareholder Teddy Klinghoffer. The Akerman team also recently closed a $175 million private offering of its three percent convertible senior notes due 2033. The offering was led by shareholders Esther Moreno and Christina Russo.
