Mr. Thorpe started his legal career at the Division of Corporation Finance of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and has become a seasoned capital markets lawyer in private practice over the last two decades. Prior to joining Mintz, Mr. Thorpe practiced with Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP in the Bay Area.
Vincent Sama, widely respected as one of the nation’s most effective litigators of high-stakes securities and commercial disputes, has joined Seyfarth. Sama comes to Seyfarth from Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer LLP, together with his longtime, accomplished partners Catherine Schumacher and Daphne Morduchowitz. All join as partners in Seyfarth’s growing New York office, and Sama will serve as co-chair of the firm’s national Commercial and Securities Litigation practice.
Squire Patton Boggs has expanded its Global Corporate Practice in London, adding significantly to its international private equity (PE) team, with the appointment of pre-eminent City and international lawyer Stephen Ball, and first-class PE practitioners Charles Leeming and Ben Squires from Simpson Thacher. Daffurn, who joins Locke Lord from Linklaters, provides capabilities in mergers and acquisitions, projects and finance work across all segments of the energy industry, including upstream exploration and production companies as well as in midstream and downstream project development and renewable power.
Shearman & Sterling continues to expand its presence in Texas with the addition of six partners to its new Dallas office. The office, its third in the Lone Star State, is anchored by six partners with a broad range of transactional experience across our core industries.

Ms. Marlier joins Morrison & Foerster from the Enforcement Division of the New York office of the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC). During her nine-year tenure at the SEC, most recently as Senior Trial Counsel, Ms. Marlier served as lead trial counsel on a number of prominent enforcement litigations and investigations. She represented the SEC in enforcement actions brought against financial service providers, issuers, and individuals in U.S. federal and administrative courts. Ms. Marlier also investigated a wide array of matters, including disclosure failures related to financial results and internal controls, offering frauds, data breaches, and insider trading. While at the SEC, she worked closely with U.S. federal prosecutors and the SEC’s specialized units focused on complex financial instruments and market abuse.
