Dechert announces an addition to its New York office with the hiring of senior funds specialist Kevin Scanlan. Scanlan, who joins as partner, left Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe for Dechert. His focuses his practice on advising private equity groups as well as hedge funds on international and private investment fund formation and structuring.

This agreement gives them the honor of being the largest Denver law firm to replace its electricity use with that of wind. Hogan’s Denver office will purchase 1.86 million kilowatt hours of renewable energy credits, denying the emission of 2.5 million pounds of carbon dioxide . Hogan & Hartson’s decision will benefit the environment extremely, in that it is equivalent to planting 1,030 acres of trees, or in other terms, not driving 2.8 million miles. This latest action is part of Hogan & Hartson’s “Earthwell” program, which focuses on passing policies to reduce waste at the firm’s Colorado’s offices

Nixon Peabody LLP has opened office in Shanghai. The branch is staffed by a rotating schedule of Nixon Peabody’s China group attorneys. But, it will not be long before it has a permanent staff looking after its affairs. This new addition makes the 17th city in which Nixon has set up camp.

Compared to 2006’s total of $40.3 billion, this means a 16 percent increase.
