Hogan & Hartson and Lovells have announced that they are in the midst of discussing merging. The outcome of the merger would be a global firm of about 2500 lawyers. The two firms would have a combined gross revenue of $1.9 billion based on 2008 figures. This would make the combined firm # 4 on the top 200 firms list.

Linklater and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer are at the top of the list when it comes to the European M&A markets up to now in 2009. Freshfields takes 1st place in terms of value by making 105 deals totaling $127.9bn (£80bn) in Europe.
