Winston & Strawn Welcomes Seasoned DOJ Prosecutor to Antitrust Practice in Washington

Winston & Strawn LLP is pleased to announce that Eric Meiring has joined the firm’s Antitrust/Competition Practice as partner in the Washington, D.C. office. Eric was previously Assistant Chief of the Criminal II Section at the U.S. Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Antitrust Division in Washington.

“Eric’s robust experience with cartel enforcement will be a tremendous addition to our Litigation Department,” said Tom Fitzgerald, Winston’s chair. “The firm’s Antitrust Practice is representing clients in of some of the largest cartel investigations in the world today, and those clients will greatly benefit from Eric’s pointed and expansive knowledge of this broad government enforcement space.”

Eric has spent his career at DOJ investigating and prosecuting sophisticated corporate and economic crime, managing complex criminal investigations and litigation throughout the U.S., coordinating international investigations with the European Commission and other national competition agencies—including those of Canada, Mexico, Japan, Korea, Brazil, and Germany—and investigating and prosecuting individuals and corporations in a wide variety of business sectors. He also has considerable first-chair jury trial experience.

Eric has investigated and prosecuted numerous multinational corporations and executives for participating in criminal antitrust conspiracies. He has also investigated and successfully prosecuted corporations and individuals for participating in fraud schemes, obstruction of justice, making false statements, and theft. Throughout his career, he has received prestigious honors for meritorious service, including the Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service (the second highest award for employee performance) and multiple Assistant Attorney General Awards of Distinction. Eric joined the Justice Department via the Attorney General’s Honors Program.
