Dechert LLP is pleased to announce that Vincent H. Cohen, Jr. has joined the firm in its Washington office as a partner in the litigation group. Cohen most recently served as the acting United States Attorney for the District of Columbia. As the head of the largest United States Attorney’s Office in the nation, Cohen managed more than 300 federal prosecutors and oversaw some of the nation’s most significant prosecutions involving national security, financial fraud, public corruption, and cyber-crime.

“We are delighted that Vince has joined the firm,” said Andrew J. Levander, chairman of the firm’s policy committee. “Not only does Vince possess substantial in court trial skills as a result of having tried dozens of cases to verdict throughout his career, his deep experience in private practice and at the highest levels of government provides him with a sophisticated and unique background that will allow him to handle our clients’ most challenging legal problems.”

“Dechert’s unparalleled reputation as a go-to firm for the biggest, toughest cases is undeniable,” Cohen said. “In today’s cross-border legal environment, clients demand a firm that has the expertise to tackle matters on an international scope. I am excited to join forces with such a firm, and I look forward to help lead and grow the firm’s success in our nation’s capital and internationally.”

Prior to leading the U.S. Attorney’s Office in D.C., Cohen served as its Principal Assistant U.S. Attorney from July 2010 until his appointment in April 2015 as acting U.S. Attorney. From 1997 to 2003, Cohen served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s Criminal and Civil Divisions. From 2003 to 2010, he practiced civil and criminal law at an international law firm and later at a boutique law firm specializing in high-stakes litigation.

Cohen is a graduate of Syracuse University (B.A., 1992) and Syracuse University College of Law (J.D., 1995). He is a member of the District of Columbia and Maryland bars.

Cohen is the second high-profile addition to Dechert’s litigation team in Washington in recent months. In October 2015, the firm announced the arrival of Michael J. Barta, who previously was a partner and Chair of the White-Collar Crime and Corporate Investigations group at Baker Botts LLP.
