Shearman & Sterling Continues Expansion with CFIUS Hire John Beahn

Shearman & Sterling continues its expansion with the hire of market-leading CFIUS partner John Beahn in its Washington, D.C. office. John joins the firm from DLA Piper.

With more than 20 years’ experience, John advises clients on complex transactions requiring Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), Defense Security Service and U.S. telecom agency approvals. He is also a sought out expert in national security issues, including supply chain matters, risk mitigation, and compliance monitoring. John joins Robert LaRussa, a former Commerce Department Under Secretary for International Trade, in our CFIUS practice.

“John’s stellar CFIUS experience will bolster our offering to help clients navigate complex cross-border transactions in an increasingly complicated regulatory and geopolitical environment,” said David Beveridge, Senior Partner at Shearman & Sterling. “His arrival further strengthens our ability to advise clients on transactional matters in the U.S. and globally.”

“We are delighted to welcome John. He is an exceptional lawyer whose experience will deepen and enhance our already-strong CFIUS practice and complement our robust U.S. and global Merger Control offering,” said David Higbee, Global Antitrust Practice Group Leader and Head of Shearman & Sterling’s Washington, D.C. office. “Providing a holistic approach to strategic business planning is paramount for our clients given the pace of regulatory change and we are pleased that John will play a key role in delivering this.”

John is the most recent arrival in a string of high-impact hires, including that of leveraged finance partners Alan Rockwell and Michael Chernick; Mergers & Acquisitions partners Thomas Philippe and Daniel Mitz; investigations lawyer Sara Raisner, a former enforcer with FINRA; and Adam Schwartz, a former federal prosecutor.
