Polsinelli Continues Growth of Employment Department With Addition of Shareholder Connie Bertram in DC Office

With a continuing emphasis on its expanding national Labor & Employment practice, Polsinelli announced today that Connie Bertram joined the firm as a Shareholder in the DC office. Ms. Bertram is a highly regarded and experienced employment lawyer, who represents companies in complex internal investigations, False Claims Act, Sarbanes-Oxley and other whistleblower claims and government contracting/affirmative action and compliance and enforcement matters. Her addition to the Polsinelli DC office fits well with other recent additions to the DC office and provides clients with complex compliance and government contracts legal services for which the firm is becoming nationally known.

“I have known, and respected, Connie for years as we have practiced in the same space and even for some of the same clients,” said Nancy Rafuse, Chair of Polsinelli’s Labor and Employment Department. “As soon as we had a chance to chat about the synergies with our Labor & Employment practice with the outstanding practice she has developed over the years, we knew that this combination was meant to be. Connie has a sophisticated practice, a great client base, is a talented lawyer and is a nationally ranked and recognized lawyer. We are excited to add her and her unique practice to our firm.”

“I am thrilled to be joining Polsinelli’s DC office and Labor and Employment practice. Polsinelli offers a terrific combination of substantive expertise and talented attorneys with a great collaborative culture,” said Bertram. “With its strong government contracts, government investigations and corporate practices, there are tremendous teaming opportunities. I look forward to devoting my energy to such a dynamic and growing firm.”

Bertram concentrates her practice on government contractor compliance, whistleblower, trade secrets and False Claims Act litigation. In addition, she is frequently called upon to conduct confidential executive-level investigations of sexual harassment, fraud and other alleged violations, as well as to advise companies with respect to Sarbanes Oxley, Dodd-Frank and other complex compliance-related issues. Bertram has been recognized as a ranked lawyer in Chambers USA, a “Leading Lawyer” by the Legal Times, a “Top Washington Lawyer” by Washingtonian Magazine and by the Washington Business Journal. She was named a Best Attorney in America and a Washington DC Power Player. She is an active member in bar association activities, including serving as the past co-chair of the Steering Committee of the DC Bar’s Labor and Employment Section and current Chair of the Whistleblower and Government Contractor Committee. She regularly speaks and presents at national conferences, including the American Bar Association and the Industry Liaison Group. She is also involved in civic and non-profit organizations, and currently serves on the Board of the Washington Tennis and Education Foundation.

Bertram’s practice complements the firm’s Government Contracts practice, which is based in the DC office, as well as the firm’s False Claims Act and Government Investigations practices. “We are extremely pleased to have Connie join us in the DC office, and her practice is such a natural fit to the work we do for our clients here,” said Phil Feigen, office managing partner of the DC office. “This is especially true for the myriad of government contracts work our clients encounter.”

Polsinelli has more than 825 attorneys across 21 offices coast to coast. The firm’s DC office offers a full range of services including advice in the areas of government contracts, public policy and compliance, with a cross-disciplined approach to client service that draws upon the talents and experience of Polsinelli attorneys around the country.
