Greenberg Traurig Expands Public Finance Tax Team

Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Washington, D.C. office continues to expand with the addition of Solomon Cadle as a shareholder in the Public Finance and Infrastructure and Tax practices. He joins the firm from McKennon Shelton & Henn LLP.

Cadle focuses his practice on federal tax law and regulations involving public finance, regularly serving as bond counsel in 501(c)(3) tax-exempt financings and both tax-exempt and tax advantaged municipal financings. Cadle guides issuers, underwriters, and borrowers through the tax advantaged financing process; balancing the requirements of the federal tax law with their specific needs and goals.

Greenberg Traurig has broad experience in tax matters related to Section 103 and related sections of the Internal Revenue Code, including the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), the Treasury regulations, and related rulings. The firm’s tax attorneys also have wide-ranging understanding of federal, state, and local tax controversy work as well as the tax aspects of corporate, real estate and partnership transactions, and planning for charitable foundations.

“As our public finance tax team continues to grow and support deals across the nation, Solomon’s experience, particularly with 501(c)(3) entities and federal tax law, will provide an additional resource to meet increasing client demand,” said Warren S. Bloom and Franklin D.R. Jones Jr., co-chairs of the firm’s Public Finance and Infrastructure Practice, in a joint statement.

Cadle’s wide-ranging experience includes advising issuers and borrowers in their post-issuance tax compliance matters. He also handles matters ancillary to tax-exempt financings including IRS filings, allocations, contract revisions, remediation, and exercising an issuer’s right to enter into a Voluntary Closing Agreement Program (VCAP) with the IRS.

“We are delighted to welcome Solomon and continue the growth we have experienced in Washington, D.C.,” said Ernest L. Greer, firm co-president and chair of the Washington, D.C. office, and Pamela J. Marple, administrative shareholder of the Washington, D.C. office, in a joint statement. “His addition reflects the firm’s continued commitment to recruiting highly-skilled lawyers who provide our clients with the best in class service.”

Cadle has been involved in a variety of financing projects including hospitals, schools, parking garages, energy facilities, transportation, water and wastewater facilities, and public recreation and open space projects. He is a member of the Maryland Bar and the National Association of Bond Lawyers.

“I look forward to working closely with the firm’s public finance team to provide holistic client service that is specifically designed to help our clients reach their most important goals,” Cadle said. “Greenberg Traurig’s global platform and collaborative approach to addressing clients’ tax planning needs offers the ideal setting to grow my practice.”

Cadle received a J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law and a B.A. from the Institute for Advanced Judaic Studies. He is admitted to practice in the State of Maryland.
