Clyde & Co Expands in Washington, DC With New Partner Hire

Global law firm Clyde & Co has today announced the appointment of Alan Joaquin as a partner in its global insurance practice. Alan joins the firm’s Washington, DC office from Drinker Biddle, having previously been a prosecutor with the US Department of Justice.

Alan brings 25 years’ experience of coverage litigation in the professional liability, D&O, fidelity bond and cyber areas. In recent years, cyber risk, privacy and cyber extortion has grown to become a key element of his practice.

Bill Casey, Partner and Chair of the North American Board at Clyde & Co, says: “Alan is a highly respected lawyer who brings a wealth of experience and expertise to our insurance practice in Washington, DC having acted as a prosecutor and defense lawyer. His appointment is further testament to our ability to develop exceptional bench strength in major markets across the US.”

Leslie Ahari, Managing Partner of Clyde & Co’s Washington, DC office, says: “In addition to complementing our core practice areas of FI D&O and professional liability coverage for insurers, Alan has an excellent track record in the cyber arena which will enable us to further enhance our client offering there. We are looking forward to having him on board.”

Alan Joaquin said: “I am thrilled to be joining Clyde & Co and further building my practice. The firm has a stand-out reputation in the insurance market and an impressive US and global footprint which I look forward to leveraging for my clients.”

Alan joined the firm on 22 March.

Clyde & Co’s has the world’s largest global insurance practice by headcount which handles claims across every line of insurance and reinsurance business in addition to corporate and regulatory work. Its international experience enables an unequalled ability to advise in relation to complex multi-jurisdictional disputes, and on structuring global programmes.

This expansion in Washington DC is the latest growth for Clyde & Co in the US, where it first launched in 2006, and follows the hiring of a 90-strong insurance and litigation team from Sedgwick LLP in December 2017, four partners from Shipman & Goodwin in Washington DC, and two partners from Hinshaw & Culbertson in January 2018. Earlier in March Clyde & Co hired Stacey Farrell as a partner in Atlanta.

The firm opened offices in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Washington, DC in 2017 and now has nine offices, over 60 partners and more than 350 people nationally in offices including Miami, Atlanta, San Francisco, Orange County, New York City and New Jersey.
