Accomplished Attorney Joins BakerHostetler’s International Tax Practice

BakerHostetler announced today that Roger Brown – former sector leader for banking and capital markets clients in Ernst & Young LLP’s international tax and financial services practice, and former special counsel to the associate chief counsel of the IRS – will join the Washington, DC office as a partner in the firm’s international tax practice.

With more than 26 years spent focusing on international tax issues, Brown has developed a broad practice with particularly significant experience advising financial services, technology, insurance and asset management companies.

Brown rose through the ranks while at the IRS, holding significant roles including assistant branch chief and special counsel to the Associate Chief Counsel (International). Before leaving the IRS, he received a commendation for outstanding service, the division’s highest award for distinguished service.

As a principal at Ernst & Young, Brown worked on diverse and complex matters for U.S. and foreign based companies. His work has included a multibillion-dollar restructuring of a global business, creating operating models and helping to raise capital for global technology and blockchain companies, conducting due diligence for foreign targets, structuring tax efficient financing and managing tax attributes. Brown is also fluent in German and proficient in French.

“Roger’s distinguished career and impressive record makes him a natural fit for our international tax team,” said Paul Schmidt, chair-elect of the firm and chair of the national Tax Group. “I am excited to see the continued growth of this team, which thrives with strong additions like Roger complementing the well-established commitment to excellence from the current members of the practice.”

“We’re thrilled to bring Roger’s broad experience both in government and private practice to our tax team in Washington,” said Jeffrey Paravano, managing partner of BakerHostetler’s Washington, DC office. “Roger’s insights into both the complexities of international and financial services tax issues and into how the IRS views issues in this space will be incredibly valuable to our clients.”

“I’m excited to have the opportunity to work with the highly-regarded tax group at BakerHostetler,” Brown said. “The group’s strong leadership and roster of accomplished attorneys will be a perfect venue to continue to grow my practice.”

Brown received his B.A. from Bucknell University, his J.D. from the American University Washington School of Law, and his LL.M (Taxation) from New York University.
