Gregory P. Bergethon, ESQ., C.P.A., Joins Kaufman & Canoles

Gregory P. Bergethon, Esq., C.P.A., has joined Kaufman & Canoles as a member. Bergethon specializes in complex business transactions including mergers and acquisitions; joint ventures; business tax; and venture capital for a distinguished international client base. He brings more than 22 years of experience in international transactions as both a certified public accountant and as an attorney. His client roster includes Fortune 500 companies, Department of Defense contractors and high-profile businesses around the world.

Bergethon started his career in the London office of KPMG, where he performed audits of major accounts such as Bank of Moscow and Philips Electronics. With the Norfolk office of KPMG, he specialized in U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission issues and with clients in the high-tech information, communications and entertainment industries representing the Family Channel and a number of start-up cable companies. In 2000, Bergethon joined an AmLaw100 firm where he specialized in corporate transactions, tax, and securities, on behalf of public and private companies.

He received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Richmond in 1993, and a juris doctor degree from William & Mary School of Law in 2000.

At Kaufman & Canoles, Bergethon will share his business and tax expertise on corporate transactions including corporate formation and structuring, capital financing, mergers and acquisitions, asset protection, liability, risk management and joint ventures. He will enhance the business tax group with his expertise in corporate tax, partnership tax and in tax-advantaged strategies for closely-held business, partnerships and LLCs.
