Clifford Chance Further Strengthens Asia Pacific Derivatives and Structured Products Team with Tokyo Counsel Hire

Leading international law firm Clifford Chance has hired Aaron Comerford to join the Tokyo office as Counsel on the derivatives and structured products team.

Aaron’s areas of expertise include structured credit derivatives transactions, financial guarantee products, synthetic instruments and structured equity derivatives. He is a specialist in OTC derivatives and financial market regulation, and has advised extensively on issues relating to the mandatory clearing of OTC derivatives in Japan.
“Aaron has an excellent reputation with structured products and derivatives clients across Asia Pacific, and we are delighted he will be joining our growing team,” said Leng-Fong Lai, partner in Tokyo. “Since the global financial crisis and the ensuing waves of changes to regulations worldwide, we have seen an enormous increase in Tokyo for advice on derivatives transactions, financial market regulation and disputes, and we welcome the
senior resource that Aaron will add to our team here.”
The addition of Aaron follows the recent promotion of Wendy Yeo to Counsel on the team. Wendy focuses on derivatives, structured products and advises investment banks, dealers, intermediaries and end users operating in the Tokyo market. She has been with Clifford Chance in Tokyo since September 2010, and has over 10 years experience working in Singapore, Japan and the UK. She is qualified in Singapore, New York, England and
Wales, and is a graduate of the National University of Singapore.
Paget Dare Bryan, Asia Pacific Head of Derivatives said, “Our team has grown substantially in the last two years, and with the addition of Aaron and the promotion of Wendy, we can boast the strongest team across Asia Pacific. With over 30 lawyers, including 12 partners and counsel, advising on non-contentious derivatives matters on either a dedicated or a regular basis from Hong Kong, Beijing, Perth, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo, our team is in the best position to respond to the ever-increasing demand for derivatives and structured products advice.”
Previously, Aaron was at Allen & Overy in Tokyo where he had been Counsel since 2008. He obtained his LLB from the University of Queensland, Australia and is qualified in New South Wales, Australia, England and Wales.
