Squire Patton Boggs Strengthens Real Estate Finance Capabilities with Addition of Partner J. Keith Jones

Squire Patton Boggs is pleased to announce that J. Keith Jones, previously with Nelson Mullins, has joined as a partner in the Real Estate Practice. Mr. Jones will be based out of the Tampa office.

“Keith brings a wealth of knowledge to our multidisciplinary team, possessing comprehensive experience in analyzing and resolving the tax structuring issues involved in the full-range of development transactions,” said John Thomas, head of the firm’s global Real Estate Practice.

Mr. Jones focuses his practice on representation of lenders, master servicers and special servicers in connection with the origination and servicing of commercial mortgage-backed security (CMBS) loans and multifamily housing loans. He offers a solutions-based approach to assist clients to work through complex real estate issues, including providing creative solutions to CMBS loans, as well as loan origination and loan servicing issues.

Mr. Jones has extensive experience in real estate mortgage investment conduit (REMIC) tax law, including providing REMIC tax advice and issuing REMIC tax opinions for servicers of securitized loans. His work includes the origination and servicing of CMBS, Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae loans, coordinating loan assumptions, partial collateral releases and substitutions, borrower consent requests, defeasances, non-consolidation opinions and other servicing matters. Mr. Jones also performs corporate M&A and corporate governance work, and routinely provides local counsel opinions for real estate transactions.

Mr. Jones received his J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law and his B.A., magna cum laude, from Queens University of Charlotte.
