K&L Gates Adds Partner to Real Estate Team in Sydney

Global law firm K&L Gates has further bolstered its Real Estate practice with the appointment of Jennifer McCosker as a partner, based in Sydney. McCosker joins K&L Gates from Arnold Bloch Leibler, where she was a partner.

McCosker has advised a number of Australia’s leading commercial property investors and developers on a wide range of transactions, including large-scale property and development finance matters and the sale and acquisition of commercial, retail, industrial and mixed-use properties. She has also acted for clients on complex property development and construction projects, as well as commercial and retail leasing matters.

McCosker previously worked in the real estate practice at a large multinational law firm in New York with a focus on property finance, property acquisitions and dispositions, and structuring. Well known for her commercial approach, McCosker’s cross-border experience sets her apart in the industry and enables her to adeptly service global institutions (in both the private equity and debt markets) when directing their real estate investments into Australia.

K&L Gates’ Managing Partner, Australia, Nick Nichola said: “We are really pleased to welcome Jennifer to K&L Gates as our 11th new partner appointment in Australia since December. Jennifer’s addition is further investment into a key area of client demand and in a sector of great importance to the Australian economy. Her experience within the sector at both a national and international level will fit in perfectly with the opportunities available within the K&L Gates global platform.”

Real Estate practice area leader Sandra Steele stated: “Our clients in the real estate sector are dealing with some economic headwinds, such as rising interest rates and supply chain issues that are lifting the cost of materials and construction. It is vital that we remain close to our clients and provide commercially focused advice during what is a testing time. Jennifer’s arrival will further bolster our team in this area and allow us to continue to deliver the highest level of service to our clients.”

McCosker is the seventh new partner to join the firm’s Sydney office over the past three months. Her arrival follows Corporate practice team appointments James Lonie, Natalya Hards, Naomi Philp, and Simon Leslie, along with Lisa Lautier and Matthew Watts in the Asset Management and Investment Funds practice team.

McCosker is also the second partner appointment to the Australian Real Estate practice team, joining Damiano Castelli (Brisbane) who was promoted to partner in January.
