Morgan Lewis Adds Director in Singapore Focused on Private Investment Fund Formation

Morgan Lewis welcomes Joel Seow, who advises sponsors and investors throughout Asia on private investment fund formation, as a partner of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius and director of Morgan Lewis Stamford. Before joining Morgan Lewis, Joel was a legal consultant for several Singapore private fund managers and served as counsel in the investment funds practice of another global law firm, resident in Singapore.

Joel represents clients across various asset classes and jurisdictions, with a particular focus on private equity funds, venture capital funds, real estate funds, infrastructure funds, and hedge funds. He also works on nontraditional private investment fund setups such as fund platform structures, hybrid funds, club deals, and open-ended illiquid funds, and he advises clients from Asia, Europe, and the United States—including financial institutions, pension funds, corporations, family offices, and fund of funds—on their investments into private funds.

“Joel’s global experience complements our cross-border investor and sponsors practice and adds further depth in Asia,” said Firm Chair Jami McKeon. “Our Singapore office assists clients throughout the region and the world on private investment and cross-border financial transactions, making Joel’s background a perfect fit for our team.”

In addition to transactional work, Joel counsels clients on the licensing and ongoing regulatory requirements of operating fund management businesses in Singapore. He also assists with fund management license applications to the Monetary Authority of Singapore.

“I am pleased to welcome Joel to our practice in Singapore, where he will be a key asset to our clients in Asia, as well as fund managers and investors based in Europe, the Middle East, and the United States,” said Louis Singer, who leads Morgan Lewis’s investment management practice. “His additional background in transactions and on regulatory and licensing matters makes him a particularly valuable partner for our clients.”

Joel has been recognized for his work in Chambers Asia Pacific and The Legal 500 Asia Pacific, and was named by Private Funds Management to its “30 under 40” global list of top private fund lawyers under age 40.

“Joel is a rising star in the investment management world and I am delighted he is joining us,” said Joo Khin Ng, managing partner of the Singapore office. “His arrival builds on recent additions to our Singapore team, with which his practice has strong synergies.”

In addition to adding corporate lawyer Vanessa Ng in Singapore earlier this year, Morgan Lewis expanded its investment management, tax, and corporate capabilities with a team of lawyers in Washington, DC, and Abu Dhabi led by partners Courtney Nowell and Bill Nash.
