Cooley Expands Capital Markets Practice in Asia

Tim Pitrelli has joined Cooley as a partner in the firm’s capital markets practice in Singapore. Arriving from Goldman Sachs, where he served as a Singapore-based executive director and senior counsel in the investment banking division, Pitrelli brings significant experience in IPOs, followon offerings, and other regional and international cross-border transactions, as well as a comprehensive knowledge of the Singapore and Southeast Asia markets. A veteran of the Singapore legal industry, Pitrelli moved from the United States in early 2008 and has been based in Singapore for almost 14 years.

“Tim is a deeply respected lawyer and is lauded as an extremely knowledgeable capital markets practitioner across equity offerings,” said Dave Peinsipp, co-chair of Cooley’s global capital markets practice alongside Charlie Kim. “We are thrilled to welcome him as the first capital markets partner in Singapore, joining our leading emerging companies partners Matt Bartus and Ferish Patel. His experience at Goldman will prove to be invaluable for our issuer clients, while also deepening our expertise in representing our investment banking clients.”

“Tim’s technical expertise, vast deal experience, team focus, knowledge of and commitment to Singapore and Southeast Asia, and unique insights into issues that concern investment banks make Tim an ideal addition to Cooley,” Kim added. “We are confident he will play a key role in supporting our incredibly dynamic and active capital markets practice in Asia, and will also contribute to Cooley’s vision of operating as a truly diverse and unified cross-border team.”

Pitrelli’s practice focuses on IPOs, followon offerings and other complex transactions involving issuers with operations in Southeast Asia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam, as well as in the US, the UK and EU. Prior to his tenure at Goldman, Pitrelli was a Singapore-based assistant general counsel and director at Bank of America for three years and an associate at Latham & Watkins for almost six years, where he practiced in New York, California and Singapore. He earned his undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University and his JD from the University of Texas at Austin. He is admitted to practice in New York.

“I’m excited to join Cooley and further augment the firm’s flourishing capital markets presence in Asia,” Pitrelli said. “The opportunity to get in early in a booming market, and join a dynamic team at a firm whose platform is purposefully and uniquely built to represent leading companies with disruptive technologies, is what drew me to Cooley.”

Cooley is one of the world’s top firms working on global capital markets transactions for non-US issuers. The firm represents some of Asia’s most innovative and dynamic technology and healthcare companies through their entire life cycle, advising on financing, joint venture and other strategic transactions. Across all industries, Cooley has been the #1 law firm advising companies going public for 7+ years, the #1 law firm for VC-backed IPOs for 15+ years and was the #1 law firm representing companies and investment banks on IPOs in the technology and healthcare sector in 2020, according to IPO Vital Signs and PitchBook.
