Cooley Adds M&A and Private Equity Partner to Growing Shanghai Office

Ruomu Li has joined Cooley’s Shanghai office as a partner in the firm’s business department, where she will focus on mergers & acquisitions and private equity transactions with an emphasis on the technology and life sciences industries. Li arrives from Morrison & Foerster, where she served as a partner in the M&A, private equity investments and buyouts practices. She has extensive experience representing strategic and financial investors and target companies in the US, across China, and internationally on a broad range of M&A, private equity and venture capital transactions.

“We are delighted to welcome Ruomu to our growing team in Shanghai,” said Christina Zhang, partner in charge of Cooley’s Shanghai office. “Her deep and versatile background representing clients on complex cross-border deals perfectly aligns with Cooley’s established presence in the life sciences and technology sectors across the globe. Ruomu’s impressive and unique experience makes her an immediate asset for clients as we continue to see demand for her capabilities across Asia and beyond.”

Li brings nearly 16 years of experience in M&A and private equity and venture capital transactions, including buy-side and sell-side public and private mergers, take-private transactions, stock and asset acquisitions, divestitures, spinoffs, joint ventures, and minority investments. Additionally, she works extensively with emerging companies and the early- and growth-stage funds that invest in them. Li has a unique understanding of US and broader global tech and life sciences markets, having started her practice in Silicon Valley before relocating to Hong Kong and later settling in Shanghai.

“Cooley’s brand and reputation in technology and life sciences are unmatched, and I am looking forward to leveraging the synergies between my practice and Cooley’s broad capabilities throughout Asia,” Li said. “I am thrilled to join this incredible team and to be part of Cooley’s collaborative culture as we continue to build our M&A and PE capabilities across Asia.”

Cooley’s world-class mergers and acquisitions and private equity practices have guided some of the largest and most complex transactions in recent memory. With more than 1,600 M&A transactions valued at over $785 billion since 2017, Cooley boasts a broad platform that includes clients spanning a range of industries – from tech, life sciences and healthcare to consumer, education, defense, media and more. Cooley also represents private equity funds, management groups, consortiums, family offices, lenders and portfolio companies in the full spectrum of private equity transactions, including buyouts, minority investments, growth equity investments, take-private, spinoff and roll-up deals, leveraged recapitalizations, secondary equity transactions, royalty purchases, and other similar transactions.
