Seyfarth Formally Opens Doors of New Shanghai Office

Seyfarth Shaw LLP has moved into its new office premises at the recently completed Jing An Kerry Centre Tower II, located in Shanghai’s Jing An business district. The move marks the firm’s formal opening of its doors in China.

Seyfarth’s Shanghai office focuses on labor and employment law and cross-border transactional work (the latter especially in the energy and resources sector).

Seyfarth has the world’s largest dedicated cross-border employment practice and has deep experience working across China with its multinational clients. The formal opening of its office in Shanghai has been driven by requests from the firm’s clients to expand the firm’s China labor and employment offering and to offer assistance on the ground in China.

Seyfarth’s China team is led by chief representative and office managing partner Wan Li, who has extensive labor and employment and transactional experience. Mr. Wan, who is highly rated in Chambers Asia and Asia Pacific Legal 500, has worked closely with Seyfarth for a variety of mutual clients in recent years. Mr. Wan is joined by Leon Mao, Associate; and Bill Huang, Associate.

“We have worked with a number of our large multinational clients in China for many years. We look forward to expanding our offering in China to them and to others through our Shanghai office, particularly in the labor and employment space, where we have a very strong capability and a great deal of experience. Our clients have been very positive about our expanded China offering and are enthusiastic about our specialist focus in the labor and employment area,” said Darren Gardner, chair of Seyfarth’s International Practice.

“Together with our recently announced Australian offices, we are now in an even stronger position to meet our clients’ labor and employment needs throughout the Asia-Pacific region.”

Earlier this month, Seyfarth announced the opening of offices in Sydney and Melbourne with eight of Australia’s highest profile and most highly credentialed employment and industrial partners, establishing a national employment and industrial practice in Australia.
