Liza Mark Tapped by Haynes and Boone to Lead New Shanghai Office

Liza Mark, a veteran lawyer of more than 14 years, has joined Haynes and Boone, LLP and will serve as the administrative partner in its recently announced Shanghai office.

Senior Partner Tim Powers, who oversees the firm’s global offices, said the hiring of Liza as the first partner in Shanghai caps an extensive search.

“Liza is an ideal partner to set up our operations now that we have received the China Ministry of Justice approval to open our office,” Powers said. “Her comprehensive experience conducting a wide array of cross-border M&A, private equity investments, capital market transactions and corporate governance matters is a wonderful asset for us and our clients in the region. We think Liza is a great match for our needs and we are very excited to have her on board.”

Liza, entering the firm as a partner in the Business Transactions Department, will co-chair the Haynes and Boone Greater China Practice with Yan Zhang, an experienced corporate lawyer in cross-border M&A and VC transactions with a particular focus on China, who splits time between Shanghai and the firm’s Silicon Valley office.

“This is an extraordinary opportunity for both me and the firm,” Liza said. “Haynes and Boone is positioning itself to take advantage of the steady growth of global economy, particularly between Asia and North and South America, and I am proud to be part of this business effort and excited to take on the new leadership role in Shanghai.”

Board member Albert Tan, head of the firm’s Asia Practice Group, notes that in connection with the build-out of the Shanghai office, the firm will look to gradually bring on additional lawyers with experience in domestic and cross-border transactions in the Americas and Greater China.

Liza regularly represents her foreign and Chinese corporate, PE, financial institutions and financial sponsor clients, including CITIC Securities International, Axis Capital, Entropy Ventures, and CITIC Kazyna Investment Fund, on cross-border M&A, corporate governance, capital markets and private equity investment matters, including Hong Kong IPOs, Rule 144A offerings, SPAC acquisitions, PIPEs, Asian in-bound equity offerings and private placements of debt and equity securities.

She has practiced in the U.S. for more than nine years and in Asia for more than five.

Liza received her Juris Doctorate from University of California – Boalt Hall School of Law. She’s licensed to practice law in California, Minnesota and Hong Kong.
