Paul Hastings Builds on Strong Litigation Growth with Addition of Leading Investigations and SEC Defense Partner in San Francisco

Paul Hastings LLP, a leading global law firm, announced today that preeminent litigator Kenneth Herzinger has joined the firm’s San Francisco office as a partner in the Investigations and White Collar Defense practice. He joins from Orrick. His arrival follows the recent additions of Investigations and White Collar Defense partners Jonathan Pickworth and Joanna Dimmock and Complex Litigation partner Alex Leitch in London, and adds further momentum to the growth of the San Francisco office.

“In the escalating investigations environment, technology companies and those in related industries require sophisticated legal counsel to guide them through complicated investigations and enforcement actions,” said Seth Zachary, Chairman of Paul Hastings. “With his deep experience in a wide range of complex matters, including in new and developing areas like cybersecurity, blockchain and cryptocurrency, Ken is an important addition to our leading Investigations and White Collar Defense practice.”

“I have been following Paul Hastings’ outstanding growth story for some time, and was impressed by the firm’s strong upward trajectory,” said Mr. Herzinger. “I am excited about the opportunity to continue to grow my practice as I collaborate with my new colleagues in the firm’s Investigations and White Collar Defense practice, as well as its market-leading Fintech practice.”

Mr. Herzinger focuses his practice on Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) investigations and enforcement actions, internal investigations, and securities class actions. He has 20 years of experience in private practice and has handled a wide range of cases and investigations, including in cybersecurity, blockchain, cryptocurrency, and SEC BSA/AML enforcement, as well as more traditional areas such as accounting and financial statement fraud, financial reporting and controls, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), insider trading, and Dodd-Frank and SOX whistleblower retaliation claims. Mr. Herzinger served as an attorney in the SEC’s Enforcement Division prior to joining private practice.

Paul Hastings’ Investigations and White Collar Defense practice brings together senior defense lawyers and former government enforcement attorneys, as well as lawyers with extensive in-house experience effectively handling investigations and compliance programs. The practice has played key roles in groundbreaking investigations and resolutions over the last decade and handled anti-corruption matters in more than 100 countries around the world. These include serving as lead U.S. counsel to Airbus in a worldwide (26 countries) investigation and history-making US$4 billion simultaneous resolution with U.S., French and UK regulators, the largest simultaneous resolution in FCPA history; serving as lead counsel to Total, S.A. in the resolution of one of the five largest (in excess of US$1 billion) FCPA matters ever resolved by the DOJ and SEC; guiding Goldman Sachs to a resolution of the FCPA investigation into 1Malaysia Development Bhd; and representing a leading global pharma company in investigations by the SEC and DOJ on a range of FCPA-related matters. The Paul Hastings team is ranked in the Top 10 of Global Investigations Review’s GIR 100, an annual guide to the world’s leading cross-border investigations practices, and was named Compliance Group of the Year by Law360.
