O’Melveny Welcomes C. Todd Boes as Private Equity Push Continues

O’Melveny announced today that C. Todd Boes, a highly ranked private equity lawyer with strong M&A experience, will join the firm as a corporate partner based in San Francisco. He comes to O’Melveny from the Private Equity Transactions group of Ropes & Gray LLP in San Francisco.

Boes’s arrival delivers on a key firm priority: adding to O’Melveny’s roster of exceptional California private equity partners. Boes has a long history of advising major California- and other US-based private equity sponsors, and his clients include some of the biggest names in the space.

Boes’s private equity practice emphasizes mergers and acquisitions, leveraged buyouts, and other direct investments by private equity sponsors, as well as general corporate counseling for private equity portfolio companies.

Boes has been ranked among the nation’s top private equity lawyers in recent surveys by Chambers USA (2014-2019), Best Lawyers in America (2008-2014, 2016-2020), The Daily Journal’s “Top California Dealmakers” (2014), and Legal 500 (2014-2015).

The fifth lateral partner to join O’Melveny’s Corporate Department in the past six months, Boes follows Terrence Dugan, Christopher Owens, Jason Kaplan, and Jeff Norton to the firm. Recent additions to O’Melveny’s Litigation Department include Michael Dreeben (former Deputy Solicitor General of the United States), Lisa Monaco (former Homeland Security and Counterterrorism Advisor to President Obama), and Anna Pletcher (former Assistant Chief of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division in San Francisco).

“We are focused on adding to our already strong position in the California private equity sector, with partners in both Northern and Southern California advising some of the largest and most active private equity firms,” said O’Melveny chair Bradley J. Butwin. “Todd is a top-flight private equity specialist whose practice fits perfectly with our model and the needs of our clients. It’s our great pleasure to welcome him aboard.”

“The private equity market in Northern California continues to evolve and become ever-more sophisticated, especially in the middle market sector,” said Boes. “In this environment, O’Melveny provides the ideal platform where lawyers across practices and geographies are truly integrated, and working on the same team, to help guide clients in this fast-changing marketplace.”

Earlier in his career, Boes practiced law in Boston and New York City, and served as a law clerk to the Honorable Morris E. Lasker of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. Boes earned his B.A. magna cum laude with distinction from Duke University and his J.D. from Columbia Law School.
