Baker Botts Welcomes Prominent Intellectual Property Partner in San Francisco

Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international technology, energy and life sciences law firm, announced today that Rachael Lamkin has joined its Intellectual Property Department as a partner in the San Francisco office. Lamkin arrives from Lamkin IP Defense.

Lamkin founded Lamkin IP Defense in 2016 after more than a decade of conducting intellectual property litigation at the highest level and across forums, client sizes, and industry sectors. Her breadth of experience includes having previously served in-house as Senior Associate General Counsel for a family of companies including OtterBox, LifeProof and Blue Ocean, where she handled litigation on a global scale.

Lamkin, whose practice focuses on patent litigation, has represented clients in federal court, including the Eastern and Western District of Texas, the International Trade Commission (ITC), the Court of International Trade, and the Federal Circuit.

“We are excited to welcome Rachael to our firm,” said Baker Botts Managing Partner John Martin. “Her stellar track record as an intellectual property litigator, her entrepreneurial drive and her extensive market relationships are excellent complements to our patent litigation strength in the Bay Area.”

“Rachael is a strategic fit for our Intellectual Property Department as well as our Bay Area team,” said Christa Brown-Sanford, Co-Chair of the Baker Botts’ Intellectual Property Department. “She will play an important role in further bolstering our patent trial expertise.”

“I am honored and excited to join Baker Botts’ highly regarded Intellectual Property team,” Lamkin said. “I couldn’t be prouder to join such a deep bench with technical expertise and experience across district courts, the ITC, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, and the Federal Circuit.”

Besides having a full-time legal practice, Lamkin is also faculty at the Practicing Law Institute for the patent litigation curriculum and co-founder of the Lead Counsel Summit, an organization that offers training and support with the aim of increasing the number of female first-chair patent litigators.

Lamkin obtained her J.D. from the University of California, Davis.
