Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international energy, technology and life sciences law firm, announced today that Dino Barajas has joined the firm as a partner in the Global Projects Department. Previously, he spent 10 years as a partner at Akin Gump.

Barajas is a highly regarded, Chambers-ranked project finance, energy and M&A lawyer, who will serve as co-chair of Baker Botts’ project finance practice group. His practice focuses on domestic and international project development and finance, with particular emphasis on infrastructure projects, debt financings and M&A deals. He has extensive experience in Mexico and elsewhere in Latin America and joins Baker Botts from the Los Angeles office of DLA Piper.

“Dino will further strengthen our project finance and renewables teams and also expand our offerings in California, Mexico and other Latin American countries,” said Baker Botts Managing Partner John Martin. “His deep experience in project finance and development as well as M&A work in the power and renewables sector, both in the U.S. and internationally, will be a strong addition for the firm.”

“Dino is a highly respected lawyer with a strong client following in the U.S., Mexico and Latin America,” said Jason Bennett, firmwide Department Chair of Baker Botts’ Global Projects Practice. “Dino’s practice is focused around clients who are growing the power, renewables and other energy transition spaces where Baker Botts has deep experience and complementary skills. He is an ideal strategic fit for the firm, and his clients and the firm’s clients should benefit from his joining us. We are excited about the opportunity to work with him.”

Barajas earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1993 and his B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1990.

”Baker Botts is a market leader in the power and renewables sectors and has a deep bench of energy lawyers across a wide variety of disciplines,” Barajas said. “I have long admired the firm and its energy practices and look forward to hitting the ground running.”

The Global Projects team at Baker Botts is composed of lawyers skilled in various complementary practices that offer clients the range of legal skills and experience needed for sophisticated and complex energy and infrastructure projects and transactions around the world. Even in the midst of rapid changes that have pushed energy companies to adapt to new priorities for decarbonization and electrification and heightened focus on ESG, Baker Botts remains the preeminent energy law firm, advising clients globally across the energy value chain. Baker Botts has been named an “Energy Practice Group of the Year” by Law360 for two years running, and the firm was ranked the No. 1 legal advisor for global oil & gas M&A deals by value through the first three quarters of 2021 by GlobalData.
