John Tang, Securities Litigator, Joins Jones Day in San Francisco

The global law firm Jones Day announced today that John Tang has joined the firm as a partner in the San Francisco Office. Mr. Tang is now a member of Jones Day’s Securities Litigation & SEC Enforcement Practice.

 
Mr. Tang comes to Jones Day from the Silicon Valley office of Latham & Watkins, where he was a litigation partner, former co-chair of the firm’s Securities Litigation and Professional Liability Practice Group, and former global chair of the firm’s Recruiting Committee.
 
“Having represented companies and executives in a wide range of securities litigation matters – including securities class actions, shareholder derivative suits, M&A litigation and SEC investigations – John is an excellent addition to our Firm and strengthens our litigation team here in San Francisco,” said Robert A. With the addition of Mr. Tang, there are now 56 lawyers in the Firm’s Securities Litigation & SEC Enforcement Practice, which includes attorneys from 12 offices. Jones Day now has more than 320 lawyers in California, including 93 in the San Francisco Office, which opened in 2003.

His experience also includes representing Chinese companies in litigation proceedings in the U.S. and Hong Kong and in international arbitration, further expanding our capabilities to help clients with business in that region through our U.S. and Asian offices,” said Robert W. Gaffey, co-leader of the Securities Litigation & SEC Enforcement Practice at Jones Day. “Our global clients will also benefit from John’s expertise with counseling clients on matters concerning corporate governance, public disclosures, Rule 10b5-1 trading plans, indemnification, and D&O insurance coverage matters.”
 
Mr. Tang is also a member of the board of directors of the Asian Law Alliance, a non-profit organization that provides legal services and community education programs to the Asian/Pacific Islander community in Santa Clara County, California.
 
Mr. Tang earned his undergraduate degree from Yale University and his law degree from Columbia University School of Law. Prior to his legal career, he lived for two years in Hong Kong, where he worked at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Mr. Tang is conversant in Mandarin and Cantonese.
