Shook Welcomes Former AIG Associate General Counsel to Philadelphia Office

Shook, Hardy & Bacon welcomes partner Ryan Foley to its Philadelphia office. Foley, a former Associate General Counsel with the American International Group, Inc. (AIG), joined the firm on September 6 and co-chairs Shook’s Bankruptcy and Creditors’ Rights group.

“We are excited to welcome Ryan to Shook,” said Philadelphia Managing Partner Sean Wajert. “He’s an ideal addition to our Bankruptcy and Creditors’ Rights group. With his advanced training, and experience serving as outside and in-house counsel, Ryan will bring a wealth of knowledge and insight to his work with Shook clients.”

Foley focuses his practice on bankruptcy, creditors’ rights and commercial litigation. His experience includes negotiating, litigating and enforcing all types of claims in bankruptcy in addition to assisting with debtor financing and other financial issues, as well as corporate reorganizations. Foley regularly authors articles and speaks on issues relating to bankruptcy law.

In his role at AIG, Foley was responsible for companywide litigation for the commercial and consumer insurance divisions. He frequently oversaw multimillion-dollar commercial litigation cases including premium audit disputes, broker fraud, subrogation recovery, regulatory inquiries and counterclaim defense matters. As Associate General Counsel, Foley created three unique alternative fee arrangements for large case dockets, including utilizing offshore resources and flat fee billing.

Before his career with AIG, Foley was an associate at firms in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He served as a law clerk for The Honorable Gloria M. Burns with the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey. Foley received his LL.M. in bankruptcy from St. John’s University, his J.D. from Villanova University School of Law, and his B.A., magna cum laude, from Misericordia University.
