Faegre Drinker announced today that Richard Scheff, Carrie Sarhangi Love, Katharine Ladd and Jonathan Boughrum have joined the firm as partners in the litigation practice in Philadelphia. The team arrives at Faegre from Armstrong Teasdale LLP.

Led by Scheff, the team is known for their work in the financial services and health and life sciences industries, representing clients in connection with government investigations, complex civil litigation and enforcement matters.

Scheff is a nationally recognized trial attorney who serves clients primarily in government and corporate investigations. He represents pharmaceutical and medical device sector clients in matters involving the False Claims Act, off-label promotion, Medicaid best price law, nominal pricing, co-pay foundations, patient assistance programs, sponsorships, patient advocacy programs and claims under the Anti-Kickback Act. His financial services experience includes fraud allegations, tax claims, insider trading, consumer claims and Native American lending. Prior to joining Faegre Drinker, Scheff served as a leader at an AmLaw 200 law firm. Earlier in his career, Scheff was a partner at a mid-Atlantic law firm, where he served as executive chair, chair, vice-chair and head of the litigation department. Before entering private practice, Scheff served as chief of the Corruption/Labor Section of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Scheff also was designated as Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Enforcement by President Bill Clinton, serving as a consultant with authority over the Treasury enforcement agencies. Throughout his career, Scheff has handled numerous high-stakes matters in courts across the country.

Love is a litigator primarily serving clients in the health and life sciences industry, including some of the country’s largest pharmaceutical and medical device companies. She also has experience serving on secondment as Chief U.S. Compliance Officer for a pharmaceutical client. Love has helped corporate and individual clients win or favorably resolve cases involving federal and state enforcement agencies and private plaintiffs. A skilled and seasoned trial attorney, Love offers strategic compliance counseling when unwanted government attention arises, such as high-stakes government enforcement, internal investigations and litigation.

Ladd focuses her practice primarily on complex commercial litigation, white-collar criminal defense and internal investigations. She has represented both large corporations and senior-level executives in federal and state court proceedings, as well as handled international criminal and regulatory matters. Ladd has significant experience representing pharmaceutical companies and medical device manufacturers with allegations of the Anti-Kickback Statute and the False Claims Act. She provides guidance to clients on compliance issues in a complicated and continually changing regulatory environment.

Boughrum is an accomplished trial attorney with two decades of experience handling complex business litigation, with a focus on government investigations and related litigation, primarily in the financial services and pharmaceutical industries. Clients seek his counsel on some of their most significant matters, where potential exposure in the hundreds of millions of dollars is often at stake.
