Jones Day welcomes David Swinburne and associates to Paris Private Equity practice

The global law firm Jones Day has announced that David Swinburne has joined the Firm’s Private Equity Practice as a partner in its Paris Office. Associates Sylvain Kabeya and Kévin Bousset are accompanying Mr. Swinburne to Jones Day.

Mr. Swinburne comes to Jones Day with 20 years of experience in private equity transactions, working on mid-cap and large-cap leveraged buyouts, infrastructure projects, M&A matters, special situations transactions, and business restructurings. He also represents large corporates in carve-outs, joint ventures, and shareholder agreement disputes.

“The arrival of David Swinburne and his team will be a significant addition to our private equity capabilities in Paris, bringing our French team to 20 dedicated private equity lawyers and adding a strong focus in buyouts to our leading venture capital and fund formation offerings,” said Sophie Hagège, Partner-in-Charge of Jones Day’s Paris Office. “David and his team will work closely with the rest of the private equity team as well as with our finance, restructuring, and M&A teams in Paris and worldwide.”

“David’s arrival illustrates the continuing commitment of the Firm to the Paris Office and to our global Private Equity team,” added Renaud Bonnet, who co-leads Jones Day’s Private Equity Practice worldwide. “He has worked on numerous high profile transactions over the years and I anticipate very effective synergies, in particular, between David, our 16-lawyer PE team in London, and our M&A, Banking & Finance, and Business Restructuring & Reorganization practices in Paris and around the world. We welcome him to Jones Day and look forward to working with him.”

Mr. Swinburne’s deep experience crosses both borders and industry sectors. His recent high profile matters have included advising cloud-computing company OVH Groupe on the opening of its share capital to KKR and Towerbrook as well as on the acquisition by OVH of the U.S. and EU vCloud Air business of VMware, consulting with funds advised by Macquarie on the sale of stakes in the Pisto group (oil storage) to CNP and Predica, and assisting Alcentra and Barings on the financial restructurings of the footwear and clothing company Vivarte.

Mr. Kabeya and Mr. Bousset also have extensive experience in private equity transactions, including advising on acquisitions and divestitures, arranging joint ventures, and counseling on business restructurings.

“I’m delighted to join Jones Day’s Paris Office and global Private Equity team,” said Mr. Swinburne. “Jones Day’s cultural cornerstones of collectively delivering high added-value and tailored advice, and ensuring its clients receive the best work experience possible, will be appealing to private equity sponsors.
