Freshfields Adds to Market-Leading International Arbitration and Public International Law Practice With New Partner Hire

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP (‘Freshfields’) has appointed prominent international arbitration specialist Will Thomas as a partner to its market-leading international arbitration practice. Will is currently based in Paris from where he runs the Eversheds international arbitration group.

In his new role Will is to be based in London. He will also spend time working with the Freshfields Paris team to further strengthen London/Paris collaboration and help build out the London presence of the public international law practice headed by Paris-based partner Ben Juratowitch .

Will’s practice at Eversheds has included arguing important cases before the Iran-US Claims Tribunal, investor-state arbitrations, and commercial disputes in the energy and telecoms sectors. He operates in some of the most challenging emerging markets and works for clients that include States, State entities and multinational corporations.

The Freshfields international arbitration practice has been at the forefront of the firm’s market-leading dispute resolution group for more than 30 years. Best known for handling high-profile and politically sensitive disputes, with particular strength in challenging and emerging markets, the international arbitration and public international law practice continues to lead the field, working on the largest and most complex arbitrations.

Nigel Rawding QC, head of Freshfields’ London international arbitration practice, commented:

“We are delighted to welcome Will to our team. Our international arbitration practice has enjoyed a remarkable 30 year-plus run of success, reflected in its market reputation, quality of mandates and ability to attract more high quality work and top talent. Will’s expertise and experience combined with our platform create a formidable offering for current and prospective clients alike.”

Will Thomas commented:

“This is an exciting opportunity to join what is widely recognised as the world’s pre-eminent international arbitration team and contribute to its continued growth and development. The quality and breadth of the arbitration group’s client list and caseload is a testament to the excellence of the partners in the global team, not just in London and Paris. I have known and admired the Freshfields arbitration team for many years and am looking forward to this new challenge. I have greatly enjoyed the last 17 years with Eversheds, and I wish the firm and its international arbitration team all the best for the years ahead.”
