Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner Continues Rapid Growth in Paris with Key Hires

The global law firm Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner (BCLP) today announced the addition of Partners Julie Catala Marty, Claire Fougea and Marion Brière Ségala along with their teams in the Paris office. Thirty-six lawyers have joined the office in the past four months, bringing the total number of BCLP lawyers in the Paris market to 70.

Julie Catala Marty and her team, including Counsel Rémi Beydon and Associates Victor Barruol and Laura Doumoulakis, bring their highly regarded Antitrust & Competition Practice to the Paris office. Having worked extensively with French companies and multinational groups, the team has experience in all aspects of French and European competition and distribution law, in particular issues of merger control procedures, litigation of anti-competitive or restrictive practices, state aid, risk prevention and risk management. The team has solid experience in the regulated sectors, including media and telecoms, and in the banking, real estate, transport, luxury and construction sectors.

Building the Antitrust & Competition Practice in Paris is a strategic focus for BCLP, which already benefits in Paris from strong transactional experience in its corporate and real estate teams, as well as strong complex litigation, compliance and risk management practices. The firm’s existing Antitrust & Competition Group is already recognized in the United States, UK, Germany and Russia and will be further strengthened with this new team’s arrival, allowing the firm to better support clients in the French market.

“I am thrilled to join BCLP, and launch the Antitrust and Competition Group in France,” Julie Catala Marty commented. “We look forward to drawing on our experience, coupled with BCLP’s global platform, to provide top-level service to our clients and best serve their business needs. The firm’s approach to legal innovation, which is particularly cutting-edge, constitutes real added value from which our clients can benefit.”

Additionally, Partners Claire Fougea and Marion Brière Ségala and their team have joined the firm to significantly bolster the Employment & Labor Practice in Paris. The team includes Charles Mathieu, Fanny Durand and Margot Jouannet. They join BCLP Paris lawyers Sarah Delon-Bouquet, François Alambret and Emmanuelle Mercier, bringing the Paris Employment Team to eight lawyers.

Claire Fougea and Marion Brière Ségala have worked closely together for more than 10 years. They have developed a highly regarded employment and labor law practice focused on organizational development, corporate restructuring, support for M&A operations, management of labor relations and collective bargaining, negotiation of managerial departures, and individual and class action litigation.

“The strengthening of the employment and labor law team in Paris complements the firm’s global platform and provides clients with seamless support for their global business needs,” Claire Fougea and Marion Brière Ségala noted.

With the growth of the Paris office since the beginning of this year – in real estate, tax, financing, public law, energy and M&A – the Paris office now includes nearly 90 legal and support personnel, including 70 lawyers led by 15 partners. This growth supports a firmwide plan to build a balanced portfolio of capabilities across geographies, with clients in France and around the world able to draw upon a new depth of support and counsel across BCLP’s global practices.

“The new arrivals – Julie, Claire and Marion, like our other recent additions – will contribute to our goal of significantly strengthening the firm’s presence in France and in Europe,” commented Paris office Managing Partner Rémy Blain. “The level of their experience is a real asset for the firm and for our clients, and especially international clients, who will be able to benefit from comprehensive and high-quality services.

“While we celebrate the additions of our new colleagues, we are mindful of the challenging times all of us face during the COVID-19 pandemic, and we are grateful to all the health care workers and officials who are on the front lines of this formidable opponent,” Rémy Blain added.
