Akin Gump today announced that Parvin Daphne Moyne, formerly an assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, has joined the firm as a partner in its white collar defense and government investigations practice in New York. Ms. Moyne spent nearly a decade as a federal prosecutor, most recently serving as a member of the elite Securities and Commodities Fraud Task Force in the U.S. Attorney’s office.
“Parvin has had a proven track record of excellence throughout her career and is clearly a great fit for our firm,” said Akin Gump chairperson Kim Koopersmith. “With her sterling credentials and outstanding record as a prosecutor, she has earned the respect of her colleagues in the U.S. Attorney’s office as well as that of opposing counsel. These attributes will make her a great asset for our clients, and I am delighted to welcome her to Akin Gump.”
In her most recent role, Ms. Moyne investigated and prosecuted a wide array of federal crimes, including securities and commodities fraud, insider trading, investment advisor fraud, wire and mail fraud and health care fraud. She also prosecuted international and domestic money laundering, immigration fraud, homicide, kidnapping and international narcotics trafficking. In addition, Ms. Moyne coordinated investigations and prosecutions with numerous law enforcement and regulatory agencies.
Ms. Moyne tried 10 federal criminal jury trials in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York during her time as a prosecutor and briefed and argued more than 10 appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit. She also supervised junior prosecutors in four federal criminal trials.
Stephen M. Baldini, head of Akin Gump’s litigation practice, stated, “As an outstanding trial lawyer and a fair-minded prosecutor, Parvin’s credentials are exceptional, and the high praises she has received from many of her colleagues made it clear she would be a strong addition to our team. Our clients will benefit greatly from her wide breadth of experience and knowledge gleaned from her tenure in government service, and I am very happy she has decided to join us.”
Added Ms. Moyne, “After nearly a decade as a federal prosecutor, I felt the time was right for me to return to the private sector, and Akin Gump is the perfect place to do it. I am eager to join forces with such notable Southern District alumni as Rob Hotz, Jim Benjamin, Doug Maynard and Paul Butler—part of a group that is widely heralded as one of the strongest white collar practices in New York—and I am excited to be here.”
