Reed Smith Adds Alan J. Schwartz as a transactional Tax Partner in the Global Corporate Group

Global law firm Reed Smith today announced the addition of Alan J. Schwartz, a seasoned tax attorney to its Global Corporate Group in New York. Schwartz was previously a partner in the tax practice of McDermott Will & Emery LLP.

Schwartz advises clients on business formations, joint ventures, and corporate acquisitions and mergers. He also provides advice on the tax aspects of securities offerings, structured financial products and other complex financial transactions and represents sponsors and investors in connection with the formation of and investment in investment funds.

“Alan is a well-known tax partner with a diverse background in U.S. and international taxation,” said Matthew J. Petersen, leader of Reed Smith’s U.S. Corporate Group. “In addition to strengthening our tax capabilities in connection with business transactions, Alan brings tax capabilities in areas such as financial products, structured finance, and derivatives adding additional support and capability to our financial transactions practices, as well as to our private funds practice. Our corporate group has been steadily expanding with a commensurate increased demand for tax services.”

Schwartz also has significant experience with international tax issues including inbound and outbound business operations and investments. More recently, he has been advising on the tax issues involved in cryptocurrencies and blockchain transactions including initial coin offerings.

Schwartz received his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law and was also previously associated with Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP.
