Real Estate Lawyer Robert Bressman Rejoins Mayer Brown as Partner in New York

Mayer Brown announced today that Robert Bressman has rejoined the firm in New York as a partner in the global Real Estate practice. Previously, he was a partner with Goulston & Storrs and earlier he was a partner with Willkie Farr & Gallagher in New York. Mr. Bressman was a partner at Mayer Brown from 1992 to 2006.

“With more than 30 years of experience, Bob is highly regarded for advising clients on a wide variety of sophisticated commercial real estate transactions,” said Jeffrey Usow, co-leader of Mayer Brown’s global Real Estate practice. “We are thrilled to welcome Bob back to the firm, where he will add further depth and breadth to our impressive real estate bench in New York—one of the world’s strongest real estate investment markets—and across the globe.”

Mr. Bressman focuses his practice on complex real estate financing, leasing and joint venture transactions, as well as major office and hotel development and equity deals. He advises national insurance companies and financial institutions in negotiating, documenting and closing acquisition, construction and permanent financing; represents investment banks on mezzanine financing and preferred equity transactions; counsels institutional owners and public and private companies in development and ownership of Class A office buildings; advises private equity funds and pension fund advisors in development and ownership of five-star hotels, Class A office buildings and luxury condominiums; represents landlords in leasing of more than 10 million square feet of Class A office space; and counsels institutional users on leasing of major corporate headquarters.

“Mayer Brown’s global platform and collaborative, integrated approach to serving clients were key factors in my decision to rejoin the firm,” said Mr. Bressman. “I look forward to working with both old and new colleagues who have complementary skill sets in tax, corporate and regulatory law to better represent participants in complex real estate transactions.”

Richard Spehr, partner-in-charge of Mayer Brown’s New York office, said: “We are delighted to have Bob back at the firm, where his deep knowledge in handling real estate matters will benefit clients both in New York and around the world.”

Mr. Bressman is a frequent lecturer and publisher on topics in real estate law. He is the co-author of the course book, Understanding and Negotiating Facilities Leases, which he wrote in conjunction with his participation at a leasing seminar sponsored by the Global Conference Network. Chambers USA reports that he is “outstanding” and notes his leasing and financing work for major international banks. Mr. Bressman earned his JD from Rutgers Law School and a BA from Columbia University.
