Continuing the strategic expansion of Pillsbury’s international M&A capabilities, the firm has announced Augusto Lima as the newest partner to join its flourishing Corporate practice. Lima, who comes to Pillsbury after holding prominent in-house leadership roles at Novartis, Anheuser-Busch InBev and Sealed Air Corporation, will be based in the firm’s New York office.
“Pillsbury’s Corporate practice has been expanding rapidly and Augusto’s arrival continues that positive trend, adding even more depth and breadth to our group,” said section leader Jeffrey Delaney. “He represents a unique combination of extensive experience managing highly complex transactions, intimate familiarity with the concerns and pressures in-house teams face, and first-hand knowledge of the Latin American legal market. He’ll make an outstanding addition to our growing team.”
Lima handles strategic M&A transactions, joint ventures, public takeovers and spin-offs as well as corporate governance and capital markets transactions. As Global Head of Legal Transactions at Novartis, he led many of the pharma giant’s recent strategic deals.
Prior to joining Novartis, Lima was Global Legal Director of M&A at Anheuser-Busch InBev. During that time, he directed some of the most significant transactions in the multinational brewing company’s history, including its massive $100 billion combination with SABMiller. He had previously fulfilled the role of Latin America General Counsel for Sealed Air as well, overseeing all legal, government and compliance matters relating to the company’s businesses in 20 countries across South America, Central America, the Caribbean, Puerto Rico and Mexico.
Of his move, Lima noted: “Pillsbury has been making lots of noise in the Corporate/M&A space in recent months, bringing on a number of notable hires and playing a critical role in multiple high-profile transactions. I’m incredibly excited to join a practice—and a firm—that is so clearly on the rise.”
With Lima on board, the firm has now added seven senior M&A lawyers to its Corporate practice since the beginning of 2019. Earlier this month, Pillsbury announced that international dealmaker Jon Lyman had joined from Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP. The firm added renowned Silicon Valley technology partner Shaalu Mehra from Gibson Dunn & Crutcher LLP and Houston special counsel David Taylor from Holland & Knight LLP in June and, in February, brought on two up-and-coming private equity talents in partner Jarrod Murphy, from Gibson Dunn & Crutcher LLP, and special counsel Ted Powers, also from Willkie. Pillsbury led off the impressive corporate hiring streak with the arrival of highly regarded London energy partner Gavin Watson from Dechert LLP in January.
From formation through financing, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, Pillsbury’s corporate lawyers advise companies on a global scale and at every stage in their life cycle. Over the last five years, the firm has handled more than 620 M&A deals with an aggregate value exceeding $377 billion and more than 330 public offerings of equity and debt securities with an aggregate value exceeding $126 billion. Our lawyers actively represent more than 100 venture capital funds and have served as issuers’ and underwriters’ counsel on more than 75 IPOs since 2000.
