O’Melveny & Myers LLP is pleased to announce that Tobias L. “Toby” Knapp, an experienced mergers and acquisitions and private equity lawyer, has joined the firm’s New York office as a partner. Knapp and partner Paul Scrivano serve as co-heads of U.S. M&A and Private Equity, working with partner Steve Tonsfeldt, O’Melveny’s Global Head of M&A and Private Equity.
Knapp is joining O’Melveny from Jenner & Block in New York, where he served as Co-Chair of the firm’s Private Equity/Investment Funds Practice Group, Chair of Jenner’s New York Corporate Practice, and as a member of its firmwide Management Committee.
With nearly 20 years of experience, Knapp represents public and private companies and private equity clients in mergers and acquisitions, private investment fund, and securities transactions. For the past five years, he has been recognized by Chambers USA as one of New York’s leading lawyers in corporate and mergers and acquisitions law. Knapp has led domestic and international transactions in a variety of industries, including media and entertainment, technology, defense and aerospace, and financial services. He advises boards, special committees, and management teams on corporate governance, fiduciary duty, and securities law matters.
Knapp earned his J.D., cum laude, from Boston University, where he was an editor of the Boston University Law Review, and he received a master’s degree from Tufts University’s Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
“The addition of a leader like Toby strengthens our New York transactions practice, especially on deals for mergers and acquisitions and private equity sponsors,” O’Melveny Chair Bradley J. Butwin said. “Toby’s arrival also demonstrates our commitment to the firm’s global mergers and acquisitions platform, which has grown in reach and sophistication, and increases our ability to build cross-practice transactions teams to serve clients across geographies.”
“I am very enthusiastic about this opportunity to help develop and expand O’Melveny’s transactions practice in New York, the U.S., and internationally,” Knapp said. “I look forward to leveraging my knowledge and experience to serve the strategic business needs of our clients.”
