Jones Day Welcomes Gary Kaplan as Partner in Business Restructuring & Reorganization Practice

Jones Day has announced that Gary Kaplan has joined the Firm as a partner in the Business Restructuring & Reorganization Practice in New York. Kaplan joins the firm from Fried Frank.

Mr. Kaplan has approximately 25 years of experience representing debtors, secured and unsecured creditors, official and unofficial committees, and various institutional clients in their bankruptcy and restructuring matters. He represents debtors in connection with Chapter 11 cases, including pre-filing counseling, negotiation of debtor-in-possession financing, and formulating and confirming Chapter 11 plans. He is also a trusted advisor to corporations and investment firms with respect to debtor/creditor matters, real estate issues, restructuring of banks, institutional and trade debt, and acquisition and divestiture of assets.

Mr. Kaplan joins a team of more than 100 restructuring lawyers at Jones Day who practice in financial centers worldwide, serving debtors, creditors, and other parties involved in business restructurings and reorganizations. He will work alongside his colleagues to resolve complex restructuring issues and problems in jurisdictions around the globe, including out-of-court workouts, Chapter 11 cases, and other transactions with financially distressed entities.

Mr. Kaplan began his legal career as a Law Clerk for the Honorable Marie Garibaldi on the New Jersey Supreme Court. He earned his law degree from Rutgers University School of Law and his undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland.
