Greenberg Traurig Bolsters Brazil Focus, Adding Latin America and Corporate Shareholder Steven Sandretto

Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP has expanded its Corporate Practice with the addition of Shareholder Steven Sandretto, whose practice focuses on cross-border transactions in Brazil and throughout Latin America. Sandretto joins Greenberg Traurig’s New York office from TelevisaUnivision, where he served as senior vice president, associate general counsel.

He brings more than 20 years of transactional experience working in Latin America, particularly in Brazil. Sandretto focuses his practice on public and private capital market transactions, mergers and acquisitions, bank financings, liability management transactions, and securities and corporate governance matters.

“We have worked with Steven on many transactions over the years and we’re excited to have him join us. His talent and experience will serve us well as we focus on expanding our efforts in Brazil, which is the largest economy in the region,” said Shareholders Antonio Peña and Marc M. Rossell, co-chairs of the firm’s Latin America Practice, who are based in Miami and New York, respectively. “Increasing our presence in Brazil is a result of the continuing increased demand from both strategic and private equity investors, particularly because of our deep Latin American footprint and involvement in multi-jurisdictional matters that include Brazil.”

With over five decades of experience working in the region, Greenberg Traurig has developed a multi-disciplinary Latin America Practice team of more than 120 attorneys who can navigate cross-border regulatory requirements and handle financing needs for both start-ups and established companies. The firm has participated in some of the most transformative transactions in the last two years in Latin America, including the Latin Lawyer 2022 Private Mergers & Acquisitions Deal of the Year representation of Navent, an online Latin American real estate marketplace in its acquisition by Brazil-based Quinto Andar, and the Transactional Track Record 2021 Colombia Deal of the Year representation of Colombia-based Procaps Group in its merger with Union Acquisition Corp. II.

“Expanding our Corporate team with attorneys experienced in handling transactions throughout Latin America enhances our ability to assist clients doing business in the region,” said Ejim Peter Achi and Scott J. Bornstein, co-managing shareholders of the firm’s New York office.

Sandretto has represented corporate issuers and financial institutions in a variety of domestic and cross-border securities offerings across a wide range of sectors. He has represented companies throughout Latin America in initial public offerings and debt financings, and has advised Latin American companies on SEC reporting requirements and U.S. stock exchange rules.

“Joining Greenberg Traurig at a time when it is so well positioned to grow its presence in Brazil is an exciting opportunity for me since I have deep roots there, having lived and worked in São Paulo, Brazil for over a decade,” said Sandretto. “I have long admired Greenberg Traurig’s collaborative culture and look forward to working together with the attorneys in the firm’s award-winning Latin America Practice, as well as the rest of the firm’s global network, to continue our growth in the region.”

Sandretto, who is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish, received his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law and is admitted to the bar in New York State.
